This is a post from Peter and Maggie, the hosts at Ty Olaf: “We have recently decided that we need to sell Ty Olaf and move on. “Ty Olaf” is the Welsh way of saying “Last House”,and, while that name describes the position of the house in the village, it also indicated that we intended it to be to be our last house. During 2021 we both turned 80 and, despite our good intentions, we have realised that our energy does not continue at a level that allows that ambition. Our three sons have all been making the point to us that we are a long way from any of them and while we have loved living here this is the time, while we are still fit and able, to leave our last house and find our last home.
We could see the sense in what they were saying and we decided to go and have a look at the geography of the area near our youngest son’s home. We went up for four days to do that, and by the fourth day we had surprised ourselves by making quite a sudden decision. We have located an apartment, that will provide a totally undemanding home, no garden, no maintenance, no linked business, in a delightful village with railway station, bus station, shops, eating and drinking places, a lovely river alongside beautiful gardens. The apartment is going through Probate at the moment, which could take some time, and, of course, we now need to sell Ty Olaf, so we will be here for some while.
We hope that whoever buys Ty Olaf will continue to offer self catering and be prepared to take on those bookings that we have for the next months. We will, of course, keep posting updates. All the people staying in our cottage have become our friends and we will miss that aspect from our new life.”
